NetAsset - Parent to Child Relationships

Overview

This article will walk through the parent asset to child asset relationship in NetAsset. This type of relationship refers to a hierarchical or nested structure for assets. For example, a building could be the parent asset and all the desks located in that building could be the children assets.

If an asset is a child, you can link directly to the parent in NetAsset, which will create the association and support combined or consolidated reporting.

Step by Step Process

Child Asset Record

  1. Navigate to the applicable child asset (NetAsset > View Asset Register > Asset Register)
  2. Under the Related Record Tab, input the applicable parent asset into the Parent Asset field
  3. Select "Save"

Parent Asset Record

  1. Navigate to the applicable child asset (NetAsset > View Asset Register > Asset Register)
  2. Under the Related Record Tab, all children assets associated with this parent will be listed

Parent Asset Reporting

  1. If it is desired to customize reporting by parent asset, all assets must have a parent asset (i.e. if an asset doesn't have a parent asset it must be its own parent asset)
  2. For previously created assets, this can be accomplished via CSV upload
  3. For future assets, a workflow can be created to do this automatically by navigating to Customization > Workflow > Workflows
  4. Select "New Workflow"
  5. Enter a Name, ID, and Record Type of "NetAsset Asset"
  6. Select the Event Definition "On Create", Trigger Type of "After Record Submit", and Condition of "Parent Asset Is Empty"
  7. Select "State 1"
  8. Select "New Action"
  9. Select the action of "Set Field Value"
  10. (Optional) Update the basic information of the State as desired
  11. Update the Parameters to have the Field of "Parent Asset" and the Formula of "{recordid}"
  12. Select Save
  13. Once all assets are their own parent, the desired reports can be customized to group by Parent Asset
