NetLoan - Understanding the Reverse Amortization button on schedule lines
Overview
The Reverse Amortization button on a NetLoan Schedule Line record removes the amortization journal entries posted for that one schedule line and rolls the loan back to its balances from before that period. You can use it to correct a single period without reversing an entire monthly processing run.
The same button has a different label on other line types, and a separate button handles reclass journals:
| Button | Appears on | What it removes |
|---|---|---|
| Reverse Amortization | Schedule lines with Transaction Type Amortization | The line's Journal Entry and Intercompany Journal Entry |
| Reverse Go-Live | Schedule lines with Transaction Type Go-Live | The line's go-live journal entries and the go-live schedule line itself |
| Reverse Initial Balance | Schedule lines with Transaction Type Initial Balance | The line's initial balance journal entries |
| Reverse Reclass | Amortization schedule lines with a posted short-term/long-term reclass | The line's Reclass Journal Entry and Intercompany Reclass Journal |
Prerequisites
- The schedule line's journals were posted through NetLoan monthly processing (so the line is linked to a processing record).
- The Period Start Date of the schedule line falls in an accounting period that is open - not closed and not fully locked.
- The user's role can delete NetLoan Journal Entries, standard Journal Entries (used for reclass entries), and Intercompany Journal Entries for intercompany loans.
Step-by-step process
- Open the Schedule Line record for the period you want to reverse (for example, from the amortization schedule on the Loan record).
- Click Reverse Amortization (or Reverse Go-Live, Reverse Initial Balance, or Reverse Reclass).
- Click OK in the confirmation message, for example: "Are you sure you want to reverse the amortization entries related to this schedule line?"
- NetLoan opens the journal processing page and runs the reversal in the background. Wait for the job to finish before re-running journals for that loan.
- Once the issue is corrected, re-run journals for the period. See NetLoan - Run Monthly Journals.
What the reversal does
- Deletes the Journal Entry and Intercompany Journal Entry linked to the schedule line and clears those fields on the schedule line. No offsetting reversal entry is posted.
- If the line belongs to a modification, clears the matching journal links on the Modification record, so the next journal run creates new journals instead of pointing to the deleted ones.
- Rolls the loan back to the prior schedule line's values: Current Balance, Origination Fee Balance, and Remaining Payment. Loan Status is set back to Commenced, or Ready to Refinance if the line came from a refinance modification.
- For Initial Balance and Go-Live lines, the loan balances are reset to zero and the loan is unlocked. A Go-Live reversal also deletes the go-live schedule line and restores the period number on the original amortization line.
- Reverse Reclass deletes only the Reclass Journal Entry and Intercompany Reclass Journal. The loan record is not changed.
The journals are deleted, not reversed
The button deletes the linked journal entries rather than posting reversing entries, so there is no offsetting transaction in the GL audit trail.
Reversing one line vs. a whole run
The schedule line button reverses only that line. To reverse every loan posted by a monthly processing run, use Reverse on the journal processing record instead.
Troubleshooting
If the button is missing from a schedule line, check the following:
| Check | Why the button is hidden |
|---|---|
| Transaction Type | Only Amortization, Go-Live, and Initial Balance lines get a reversal button. Other schedule line types, such as Modification, Transfer, and Close Out, never show it. To reverse a modification or transfer, use Reverse Modification or Reverse Transfer on the Loan record. See NetLoan - Modification Reversals. |
| Period Start Date | The period containing the Period Start Date is closed or all-locked. Reopen or unlock the period in NetSuite, then reload the record. |
| Journal Entry / Intercompany Journal Entry | Both are empty - nothing has been posted for this schedule line, or it was already reversed. |
| HIDDEN: Processing Record | The schedule line has a Journal Entry but no HIDDEN: Processing Record value, which means the journal was not posted through NetLoan monthly processing. The button can only reverse journals created by monthly processing. |
| Loan | The schedule line is not linked to a loan. |
| Reverse Reclass only | The schedule line has no HIDDEN: Reclass Processing Record value or no Reclass Journal Entry / Intercompany Reclass Journal. |
Checking hidden fields
HIDDEN: Processing Record and HIDDEN: Reclass Processing Record do not appear on the Schedule Line form. To check them, create a saved search on Schedule Lines and add them as result columns.
