NetCash Installing the Claude Cowork Plugin

Overview

The NetCash plugin for Claude Cowork gives Claude specialized knowledge of NetCash. Once installed, users can ask Claude in plain language to find unmatched bank transactions, suggest automation rules, summarize cash position across accounts, surface spending patterns, and investigate reconciliation issues - all from within a normal Cowork chat session.

This article covers end-user installation, which most users can complete themselves. The Workspace Admin Setup section describes an optional, one-time setup for rolling the plugin out across an entire workspace; it is not required before an individual can install.

Prerequisites

The following are required before installing the plugin:

  • Claude Cowork access on a Team or Enterprise plan. Cowork runs as a desktop application installed from Anthropic.
  • NetCash SuiteApp already installed and configured.
  • NetSuite's MCP Standard Tools installed and configured, including the appropriate MCP access on user role. See NetCash AI Integration with LLMs via MCP.

Installing the Plugin

NetCash is distributed from a public GitHub repository, so you can add it to your own Claude Cowork account as a personal plugin. You don't need a workspace admin to enable it first, and you don't need a GitHub account.

Step 1: Open the Plugins panel.

  1. Open the Claude Cowork desktop application.
  2. With the Cowork tab selected at the top of the left sidebar, click Customize at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. Go to the Plugins tab.

Step 2: Add the NetCash plugin marketplace.

  1. In the Personal plugins section, click the + button and select Add marketplace.
  2. Choose Add from a repository.
  3. Enter the repository URL https://github.com/netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin and confirm. Cowork syncs the marketplace from the public repo; no GitHub sign-in is required.

Step 3: Install NetCash.

  1. Once the marketplace finishes syncing, NetCash appears as an available plugin.
  2. Click NetCash, then click Install.

The plugin activates for your Cowork account immediately. If the new functionality is not visible, fully quit and reopen the Cowork application.

If you can't add a marketplace or you see a permissions error, your organization may restrict which plugin marketplaces users can add - this is an Enterprise admin setting. Ask your workspace admin to allow the netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin marketplace, or to add the plugin for the whole workspace.

Connecting the NetSuite MCP Server

The plugin does not read NetSuite data on its own. It relies on a NetSuite MCP connection that the Cowork session uses to communicate with NetSuite. The NetCash-specific tools (for example, getNetCashBankActivity and submitNetCashManualBankMatch) reside within the NetSuite MCP server alongside generic NetSuite tools.

To connect:

  1. Open Customize > Connectors in Cowork.
  2. Locate your NetSuite environment in the list and click Connect.
  3. Enter the NetSuite tenant URL when prompted. A NetSuite administrator can provide this.
  4. Authenticate with NetSuite credentials, or SSO if configured for the tenant.

Verifying Installation

Perform the following two checks to confirm that the plugin and MCP connection are working.

Check 1: Slash commands.

Type / in any Cowork chat. The following commands should appear in autocomplete:

  • /daily-check
  • /find-matches
  • /suggest-rules
  • /cash-position
  • /recon-status
  • /exception-summary
  • /troubleshoot
  • /investigate-variance
  • /insights

Check 2: Tool availability.

Submit the following prompt in a Cowork chat:

What NetCash tools are available in this session?

Approximately 30 NetCash tools should be listed. If only generic NetSuite tools (or no tools) appear, the NetSuite MCP connection is not active, or the assigned NetSuite role does not have NetCash access. See the Troubleshooting section below.

If both checks pass, installation is complete.

Example Prompts

The plugin loads the relevant skill automatically based on the request, so users are not required to memorize slash commands. The following prompts are useful for a first session:

  • What changed in my bank activity since last sync? What needs attention today?
  • Show me my cash position across all bank accounts.
  • Find matches for unmatched activity on my main operating account.
  • Show me unmatched ACH transactions over $10,000 from the last 30 days.
  • Suggest automation rules from my last 90 days of manual matches.
  • What recurring vendor spend patterns should I be automating?

The same actions are available as slash commands. Type / in any chat to see the full list with autocomplete.

For the complete list of capabilities and skill descriptions, refer to the plugin's repository README. Access is provided through a Netgain contact.

Workspace Admin Setup

This section is for an IT administrator or workspace owner who wants to roll NetCash out across an entire Cowork workspace. It is optional and no longer a prerequisite. Because the plugin ships from a public GitHub repository, any end user can add and install it themselves as a personal plugin using the steps above; they do not need to wait for an admin.

Set this up at the organization level when you want to:

  • make NetCash discoverable in the workspace plugin browser so users do not each add the marketplace themselves,
  • enroll everyone automatically instead of having each person opt in, or
  • standardize how the plugin is distributed and updated across the organization.

This setup is performed once per workspace. Two distribution options are available. Option A (GitHub Marketplace) is recommended because new versions are picked up automatically. Option B (ZIP Upload) is provided for organizations that cannot or do not want to use GitHub; new versions require manual re-upload.

Option A: GitHub Marketplace (recommended).

Requirements:

  • A GitHub account for the one-time connection step. Collaborator access to netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin is not required; the repository is public.
  • Owner or Primary Owner permissions on a Team or Enterprise plan.

Steps:

  1. Sign in to Claude Cowork as an Owner or Primary Owner.
  2. Open Organization Settings > Plugins.
  3. Click Add plugin and select GitHub as the source.
  4. Enter the repository in owner/repo format: netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin.
  5. If prompted, connect your GitHub account so Cowork can sync the marketplace. Because the repository is public, you do not need collaborator access to it. This is a one-time connection.
  6. Set the install policy. Available for install lets users opt in from the plugin browser and is the recommended default for pilots; Installed by default enrolls every workspace member automatically.
  7. Save.

End users can now install the plugin from their plugin browser. New versions distribute automatically as Netgain ships them.

Option B: ZIP Upload.

Requirements:

  • The plugin ZIP file. A download link is provided by the Netgain contact.
  • Owner or Primary Owner permissions on a Team or Enterprise plan.

Steps:

  1. Download the plugin ZIP from the Netgain contact.
  2. Sign in to Claude Cowork as an Owner or Primary Owner.
  3. Open Organization Settings > Plugins.
  4. Click Add plugin and select Upload a file as the source.
  5. Upload the ZIP and confirm.
  6. Set the install policy.

Updating the Plugin

When NetCash is installed from the public GitHub repository - either by an end user as a personal plugin, or by a workspace admin through the GitHub Marketplace (Option A) - updates are automatic. When Netgain releases a new version, Cowork picks it up without any action from the end user, and there is no need to re-add or reinstall the plugin. Quitting and reopening the Cowork application applies any pending update and surfaces new slash commands or behavior.

When the plugin is distributed by ZIP Upload (Option B), there is no live connection to the repository, so the workspace administrator must download and re-upload each new version before it becomes available to end users. The Netgain contact notifies administrators when an update is available.

Uninstalling the Plugin

To remove the plugin from an individual Cowork account:

  1. Click Customize in the Cowork left sidebar to open the plugin browser.
  2. Locate NetCash in the installed list.
  3. Click Uninstall.

This removes the plugin for the current account only. Other workspace members are not affected.

Limitations and Callouts

Troubleshooting

NetCash does not appear in the plugin browser.

You have not added the plugin marketplace yet. Complete Step 2 of Installing the Plugin (add the marketplace from https://github.com/netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin). If you get a permissions error when adding a marketplace, your organization may restrict which marketplaces users can add; ask your workspace admin to allow the netgain-solutions/netcash-cowork-plugin marketplace, or to add the plugin for the whole workspace using the Workspace Admin Setup section.

Slash commands appear but Claude responds with "tool not found".

The NetSuite MCP connection is not active, or the assigned NetSuite role does not have MCP access or the required NetCash record permissions. Repeat the steps in Connecting the NetSuite MCP Server and confirm with a NetSuite administrator that the role is configured for MCP and has the necessary NetCash record permissions. On OneWorld tenants, verify that the Subsidiaries list permission has been added to the cloned role.

Authentication errors occur when running a slash command.

The Cowork session has lost its NetSuite authentication. Re-authenticate via Customize > Connectors > NetSuite and re-run the command.

An issue not described above.

Report it to the Netgain contact, who will route it to engineering. The plugin is in private pilot and user feedback shapes prioritization.
