NetCash Proof of Cash Report
Overview
Bank reconciliations often include a proof of cash report that compares the bank balance to the GL for a selected period. To see this report in NetCash, follow the below steps.
Step-by-step process
Navigate to NetCash > Reports > Proof of Cash
Enter the desired Account and Period for the report
Once this is entered, the page will automatically refresh to show the four-column proof of cash
Additional information can be shown by drilling into the applicable rows
For GL transactions that have not been matched, these balances will appear in this report as either deposits in transit or outstanding checks and are considered reconciling items. These balances will adjust the bank balance to show what it would have been had those transactions hit the bank in the current period.
- Then the user can compare the Adjusted Bank Balance to the GL Balance to see if there are any differences. If there is a difference, then the reconciliation is not complete and will require further investigation.
Check for GL timing differences
If a difference remains after deposits in transit and outstanding checks are accounted for, a common cause is a GL timing difference - a transaction whose transaction date and posting period fall in different accounting periods. These entries can leave a residual variance that is worth investigating.
To see whether timing is the cause, open the Reconcile page for the account and expand Balance Sheet Timing Differences. NetCash compares the Balance Per Transaction Date against the Balance Per Posting Period and reports the gap as the GL Timing Mismatch.
