NetClose - Weekly Task Frequency
Overview
In NetClose, users have the ability to create tasks with a weekly frequency. Weekly tasks differ slightly from those set for monthly, quarterly, or annual intervals. The walkthrough below will guide you through the process of creating Weekly Tasks and highlight the key differences.

Step-by-Step Process
- Create a new task by navigating to NetClose > Tasks > New Task.
- Enter a name for the task, select the Task Type and Task Classification, set the Task Frequency to Weekly, and check the Use as Template checkbox:
Weekly tasks must be templates to set a due date, as they are generated based on the number of selected weekdays in a month. The Weekday Due, Holiday Preference, and Reviewer Due Date fields will be disabled if the task has not been designated as a Task Template. While a weekly task can be created without being a template, it will not have a due date upon generation, and the due date will need to be set manually afterward.
- Select the Weekday Due to specify the day of the week on which the task should be due. A task will be created for each occurrence of that weekday within the month the tasks are generated. This field is required when creating a Weekly Task Template.
- Enter the Holiday Preference. For Weekly Task Templates, selecting a Holiday Preference is also required. This setting instructs NetClose on how to adjust the due date if it falls on a non-working day.
There are three options for Holiday Preference:
- Ignore Holidays: NetClose will not adjust the due date, even if it falls on a non-working day.
- Next Available Work Day: If the due date falls on a non-working day, it will be adjusted to the next available workday.
- Previous Available Work Day: If the due date falls on a non-working day, it will be adjusted to the previous available workday.
- A Reviewer Due Date can be added to Weekly Task Templates; however, when a task follows a weekly frequency, the only available option is Reviewer Due Date (From Due Date). This setting adds the specified number of days to the task's due date, establishing the due date for the reviewer:
Task Timing Subtab
- Weekly tasks are due on specific weekdays, so the Absolute Due Date and Close Timing (Business Days) fields, which are used for tasks with non-weekly frequencies, are disabled when creating a Weekly Task Template.
Review Subtab
- Assign reviewers as needed on the Review subtab. Weekly tasks can be assigned reviewers just like tasks with other frequencies. However, as mentioned, Reviewer Due Date (From Due Date) is the only option for setting a reviewer due date for Weekly Tasks. Since Weekly Tasks have multiple instances per month, these fields are not applicable, as they are intended to set a single due date per month:
Dependency Subtab
- Another key distinction for Weekly Tasks is that Weekly Task Templates cannot have Task Dependencies. Any Task Dependencies assigned will be ignored, as NetClose cannot determine which instance of a Weekly Task should be dependent on a specific instance of another task:
- Once all required information has been entered for the task, click Save to finalize the details.
- Navigate to NetClose > Tasks > Generate Tasks.
- On the Generate Tasks page, use the filter options to select tasks with a Weekly frequency—which can be generated for any period:
- Select the task(s) to generate and click Submit:
- Once the process is complete, the selected tasks will be created as weekly instances:
Similar to Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual tasks in NetClose, Weekly Tasks are generated for the accounting period that is being closed. Due dates for tasks related to closing a specific accounting period are set in the following period. For example, tasks for closing the January Accounting Period will have due dates in February, as close activities typically occur after the period ends.
- Navigate to NetClose > Tasks > Task List to view the generated Weekly Tasks.
- The actions and fields available for Weekly Tasks are consistent with those for other NetClose tasks. Each task instance can be updated individually.
One key difference to note is that if the Due Date or Reviewer Due Date is modified for a specific instance of a Weekly Task, the Update Template button will not apply those changes to the task template. However, other fields can still be used to update the template from this view.
