NetLease - AI Sidebar
AI can be used directly inside of the NetLease product in NetSuite without a need for any external connectors or integrations. The Lease AI Sidebar is an optional feature that is opened on records and can be used to interact directly with NetLease.
Setup
The sidebar is an optional feature that need to be both turned on and an admin user needs to grant permissions and a role for the tool to use. Since the sidebar can be used agentically, it needs a NetSuite role with the correct permissions granted.
Enable AI
- Navigate to NetLease > NetLease Setup > System Setup > System Features
- Check the box for AI Assistant.
Grant AI Permission Access
- Navigate to NetLease > NetLease Setup > System Setup > AI Settings
- Click Enable AI Features
- Our AI Terms of Service will show. Review and click Accept.
- A Client ID and Client Secret number will be auto-generated for your specific account. These numbers are used to track client specific usage of AI tokens. Click Enable & Connect.
- At this point, the AI sidebar will now be accessible in NetLease. You can navigate back to the AI Settings page to track usage.
If your account becomes disconnected, navigate back to this System Setup page and click the Sync License button at the top of the page.
Creating a Lease with AI
The AI Sidebar is a restricted AI tool for specific functions in NetLease. It is not meant for general use in NetSuite so if your question strays away from NetLease use, it will not answer your question.
AI can make mistakes and should not be blindly trusted. Always verify any information provided by AI tools.
As of 6/2026 the AI Sidebar has only been tested for creation of individual lease records. While there is other functionality beyond that use case, be extra cautious and check answers provided by the tool when going outside the tested use cases.
The AI Sidebar can be opened by clicking the quote looking button in the navigation sidebar. Or the AI Assistant button. Note that the button will not be available on every page since it is record specific.
If the sidebar is not visible in your account, make sure your NetLease bundle is up to date and veirfy the sidebar is enabled by navigating to NetLease > NetLease Setting > System Setup > General. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Verify the Hide Side Navigation box is not checked.
Once you have opened the sidebar, you have multiple options on how to interact with it:
Buttons
Action: Prompt a specific pre-set use case with the buttons at the top of the sidebar.
Purpose: These buttons will guide the AI agent to ask specific questions and look for specific answers and information. This is good for targeted, specific use cases.
Chat Box
Action: Type in the "Reply" box at the bottom.
Purpose: This is how you start a general chat about the page you are currently on. The AI agent you are chatting with is limited to the page itself to help keep scope down and answers accurate.
MCP Tools
Action: Toggle on MCP tools from the + button
Purpose: MCP tools give extra context and ability to the AI agent you are chatting with in the sidebar. They allow for questions and processes outside of the walls of the standard sidebar.
Permissions
The AI connects to your own NetSuite account and acts only with the permissions of the role you select — it can see and do exactly what that role can, and nothing more. Netgain gains no standing access to your account, and you can revoke the connection any time by switching the toggle off.
Enabling MCP Tools
If enabling for the first time, you will be walked through a permissions setup for the MCP tools.
- A popup window will appear when you click the toggle button asking for the role you would like to use for the MCP connection. This should be a specific role setup for MCP use that is a role your employee record has access to. See the AI & MCP setup article for more details on that setup. There are required permissions for the MCP role to work and connect. The role you pick sets exactly what the AI can see and do. The AI operates only with that role's permissions, entirely within your own NetSuite environment.
- You will then be prompted to allow the MCP connector to access your NetSuite account. Click Allow. This authorizes the AI to read and update NetSuite records on your behalf, using the permissions of the role you selected — you can revoke it at any time by turning off the MCP Tools toggle.
- Your login will automatically flip to the new role you just selected, so once authorized, switch back to your original role you were operating in. At this point your MCP tools are now authorized and can be turned on and off on the sidebar.
- You may need to re-authorize the MCP tools periodically.
